Our new truck is 6 hours old. Joe takes the boys for a "ride". He is actually inside Hollywood Video checking out "Clerks". Someone comes in and says "a green truck blah blah blah". Joe runs outside. There is the truck rolled into another car. Henry is (in his pajamas, of course) inside sobbing. (Zane had his pants off...really don't know what that was). Joe tells the person who's car it is (Hollywood Video manager), I'm really sorry. Can I borrow your phone to call my wife to give you the insurance number (she is thinking, yeah right, maybe big loser I should call CPS and turn you in, you negligent parent and uninsured driver). He calls me to get the number, he cuts me off before I start to kind of freak out after trying to be calm. The police come, say they did the right thing by exchanging insurance info. then leave to deal with a yelling homeless person.
Joe comes home. We discuss the now obvious point that our 5 year old that thinks he knows everything probably should not have been left in the car with a stick shift (after only being in automatic transmission cars).
We are left hoping maybe Henry "learned a good lesson", hope the financial damage isn't too crazy, glad no one was hurt, and consider the many future runs-in we may have with boys and vehicles. Having kids is one dangerous occupation.
